Office 365 新バージョンの早期アップデートが始まる

海外の発表によると、Office と SharePoint の新バージョンリリースにあわせて、Office 365 も早期アップデートが始まるようだ。これは所謂プレビューやベータプログラムではなく、一部のユーザーを選んで、一足早く新しい Office 365 に切り替えてもらおうというもの。

If you received an Early Access invitation, you’re in the queue to be upgraded soon.You can learn more generally in the Service upgrade center, but there are a few differences you should be aware of.

ただし、この Early Access Service Upgrade は、申請制ではない。あくまで Microsoft が指定しがユーザーにのみ連絡が行き、そのユーザが拒否しない限りは自動的にアップデートされてしまう、という計画のようだ。上の記事にも、それを拒否するための方法が明記されている。管理画面で「延期」ボタンをクリック、とあるが、管理担当者が見落としてしまい、気が付けば…というトラブルがありそうで少々怖くはある。

How to decline the invitation
Not interested? You can decline your Early Access invitation by clicking the “Postpone” button in the Office 365 admin page. Normally, you only get to “Postpone” your upgrade once. But if you decline the Early Access invitation, you will still be able to Postpone your upgrade when it’s scheduled after we launch the upgrade worldwide.

逆に言えば、これは希望しても参加できない、ということを意味している。私自身も、Office 365 の MVP を Microsoft から頂いているが、特別の扱はない。これは、おそらく早期アップデートを特定のデータセンターの特定サーバなどに絞る運用上の都合だとは思うのだが、残念ではある。

なお、実際の新バージョンへの（本番）切替については、いまのところ情報はない。個人的には、これまでの経緯やこの早期アップデートの存在から考えて、来年半ばあたりから1年程度をかけて全世界の Office 365 を切り替えるのではないかと予想している。
